Storage systems
Turning your heating system into an energy hub
Store heat for when you need it
The right storage system is essential if a wood-fired central heating system is to operate efficiently and economically. It turns the heating system into a central hub that stores and distributes energy as required. KWB supplies high-quality storage solutions together with clean biomass heating systems from a single source.
Smarter heat management
A buffer storage tank is a key part of a modern heating system, especially when renewable energy sources such as pellet heating or solar thermal energy are involved. It stores surplus heat and releases it as needed. This helps the heating system run more efficiently, reduces energy costs over time and improves comfort.
Which storage systems does KWB offer?
Anyone heating with wood or pellets should include a suitable storage system in their plans. It stores surplus heat and supplies it efficiently to the heating circuits when required. KWB storage systems combine high quality with effective heat management, from conventional domestic hot water cylinders to particularly efficient stratified storage tanks.
A domestic hot water cylinder stores heated drinking water, ensuring that hot water is available whenever it is needed.
A buffer storage tank stores surplus heat from the heating system or solar thermal system and releases it again when required.
A stratified storage tank stores water in different temperature layers. This allows the available heat to be used particularly efficiently.
A combination storage tank brings together the functions of a buffer storage tank and a domestic hot water cylinder, providing both space heating and domestic hot water.
KWB storage products
Make the most of solar energy
KWB storage tanks with solar coils are designed to work with solar thermal systems. A buffer storage tank is essential for log wood heating and is also strongly recommended for pellet, wood chip and heat pump systems.
What size buffer storage tank do I need?
Choosing the right buffer capacity is important for the efficiency of the heating system. The required size depends on the heating output and individual heat demand.
Pellets and wood chips
- Recommended: Buffer volume = 1.5 litres × kW × 400/Kelvin
- Minimum: Buffer volume = 1.0 litre × kW × 400/Kelvin
Log wood
- Recommended: 16 litres of buffer volume per litre of filling chamber capacity
- Minimum: 10 litres of buffer volume per litre of filling chamber capacity
A buffer storage tank improves efficiency by reducing frequent starts and stops and storing surplus heat until it is needed. When combined with a solar thermal system, it stores the energy generated and keeps it available during periods with less sunlight. A domestic hot water cylinder can also be integrated into the heating system to provide hot water.
