The KWB EmpaEco stores surplus heat and releases it again when required. When correctly sized, it allows a biomass boiler to run for longer, more efficient operating periods. Fibre insulation, base insulation and protective caps help minimise heat loss and keep the water required for the heating system at the right temperature. The KWB EmpaEco is particularly well suited to use with a KWB log wood heating system.

KWB EmpaEco Solar: buffer storage tank with solar coil
Where a solar thermal system is used to support the heating system, the buffer storage tank is also available as the KWB EmpaEco Solar with an integrated solar coil.
The KWB EmpaEco Solar is available in the following sizes:
- 800-litre buffer storage tank
- 1,000-litre buffer storage tank
- 1,500-litre buffer storage tank
Optional stratified charging system
The KWB EmpaEco is also available with an optional stratified charging system. Depending on its temperature, the return water from heat consumers such as radiators is directed either into the upper, hotter section of the tank or into a lower, cooler section. This prevents hot and cold water from mixing unnecessarily.
As a result, the water drawn from the top of the tank remains consistently hot, reducing the need for the boiler to reheat the storage tank continuously. Heating systems generally operate most efficiently when unnecessary starts and stops are avoided.
A buffer storage tank can therefore further improve both the efficiency and service life of the heating system, particularly when it is equipped with a stratified charging system.
