After many months of research, KWB succeeded in reducing particulate emissions to below 2.5 mg. KWB heating systems equipped with this technology not only meet stringent European environmental standards but go beyond them. They also meet and outperform the requirements of the EU Ecodesign Directive for emissions, efficiency and energy consumption.

At the heart of the technology

The newly developed burner concept with cleanEfficiency 2.0 technology makes KWB heating systems even cleaner. Three different burner systems are used across KWB’s premium heating range. Each is designed to maintain calm, stable combustion. The fuel is moved as little as possible, helping to keep emissions to a minimum.

In pellet operation, the generously sized burner plate creates a stable bed of embers and allows the pellets to burn out completely. Automatic ash removal from the burner plate prevents ash from falling back into the combustion process. Cyclone technology directs dust particles outwards and into the ash container.

cleanEfficiency 2.0 technology significantly reduces the formation of particulate matter inside the combustion chamber without changing the underlying burner system. A deeper bed of embers allows the pellets to burn more efficiently. The fine particles are less likely to evaporate, bind with the ash and are then removed with it.

KWB crawler burner for varying fuel qualities

The robust KWB crawler burner is used in both pellet and wood chip heating systems. Built to industrial standards, it moves the fuel through the combustion process in a similar way to a conveyor belt. The moving grate handles varying fuel qualities with ease.

Pellets and wood chips burn particularly cleanly because the bed of embers remains stable and no dust particles are stirred up. The crawler burner moves beneath the fuel rather than moving the fuel itself. The combustion process has been refined to achieve very low emissions.

Optional flue gas recirculation takes part of the cooled flue gas produced during combustion and feeds it back into the combustion chamber. This cools the bed of embers on the grate and further reduces particulate emissions.

The KWB rotating grate burner with cyclone combustion chamber provides calm, controlled combustion in higher-output pellet and wood chip heating systems.

Its distinctive rotating grate system feeds the fuel sideways into the pre-combustion chamber and onto a rotating grate. As the grate turns, the fuel moves through the combustion chamber and burns out fully before a dedicated cleaning system removes the ash.

With cleanEfficiency 2.0 technology, the rotating grate principle uses staged combustion air. Combined with the cyclone combustion chamber, this ensures effective fuel use, consistently high efficiency and low emissions.
